Most innovative of all are its interchangeable radio modules; a feature never seen before in a manual unit. With an often congested 2.4 GHz ISM band and different frequency regulations in different countries, its ability to switch between radio modules is a great advantage that allows work teams to choose the most convenient module for each filming location.
ARRI will launch three radio modules in the 900 and 2400 MHz ranges, using direct sequence and spread spectrum frequency hopping technology to avoid interference. Together they cover a multitude of shooting situations with a robust, long-range radio link while ensuring reverse compatibility with existing camera equipment. As technology evolves, more modules can be added, making the Hi-5 a future investment capable of adapting to future standards for hardware communications on set.
The reliability of all features and functions was an imperative priority in the design and manufacture of the Hi-5, and particular attention was paid to reinforcing the housing for use in harsh environmental conditions. Several of the elements in the Hi-5's design are geared toward maximizing efficiency. Smart pre-marked focus rings now communicate directly with the Hi-5 manual unit, and are instantly recognized and mapped to the scale of the lens focus. The batteries for the Hi-5 are manufactured by ARRI, based on the NP-L interface, can be hot-swapped without turning off the unit and the remaining capacity is always displayed accurately on the Hi-5's display. Meanwhile, a new End Slate mode prevents the user from stopping recording before capturing a final clapper in shots that need it.
