GatesAir Launches First Series of Outdoor Transmitters

gatesairLatin America. GatesAir introduced the transmission industry's first series of fully weatherproof, stand-alone transmitters, built for challenging coverage areas and installation points: the Maxiva PMTX-1.

It integrates a low-power UHF TV transmitter to support a wide range of use cases, from filling coverage gaps to delivering focused streaming content as a point transmitter. Its rugged telecommunications-grade housing makes the PMTX-1 impervious to the elements, with adaptability to any weather or outdoor environment thanks to its sealed protective housing.

The Maxiva PMTX-1 takes GatesAir's legacy of high-efficiency drive systems to new heights. The clever one-piece design of GatesAir's Europe-based engineering team removes all moving parts and air filters to eliminate most maintenance requirements.

The sealed metal housing efficiently removes heat from internal circuits and works well at extreme temperatures and humidity levels. This innovative and effective approach to heat management maximizes efficiency and keeps utility costs down. The PMTX-1 also uses an integral mask filter to minimize external components, making system maintenance virtually non-existent.

The avoidance of moving parts is combined with the installation versatility of the PMTX-1. Flexible mounting options support a variety of scenarios to optimize coverage, including an industry-leading pole mount configuration for hilltop positions and remote locations without buildings or towers. The PMTX-1 is also safely mounted on traditional transmission tower and building structures, giving network operators and broadcasters seemingly endless outdoor installation scenarios.

That makes the PMTX-1 ideal for single frequency network (SFN) configurations for DVB-T2, ISDB-Tb, and other digital television networks, where multiple transmitters operate on the same frequency to maximize signal penetration.

The PMTX-1 is also available for analog TV networks (100 W), with an upgradeable field path to DTV (50 W for ATSC, DVB-T, DVB-T2 and ISDB-Tb). Broadcasters can add optional inputs to support DVB-S/S2 receivers and IP transport transmissions, and accept broadcast content and data from alternative sources.

The PMTX-1's optional RF receiver input supports flexible options for translator and transpositor configurations and will reliably regenerate content for very specific coverage areas with low power levels. Built-in GatesAir RTAC technology for real-time adaptive precorrection ensures a solution fully compatible with any transmission standard and keeps the transmission signal within its required spectral limits.

"Broadcast networks continue to evolve and change, requiring flexible solutions that adapt to emerging network models and configurations," said Ted Lantz, vice president of product line management. "The PMTX-1 is a troubleshooter for any broadcaster or network operator that is transitioning to an SFN, covering coverage gaps, or requiring a low-power solution for a specific market or region."

GatesAir will continue to expand the innovative PMTX-1 series, with VHF TV and DAB Radio capabilities expected later this year. The PMTX-1 series will also be updated to support other digital TELEVISION modulations, including ATSC 3.0 and DTMB, in future generations of products.
