Latin America. For many in the broadcasting industry, the management, storage and archiving of media assets has tended to be a rather mundane occurrence, a routine part of the workflow that is often taken for granted. However, the shift to HD and now 4K-UHD formats combined with an explosion in the amount of content (for digital and complementary platforms) has made storage and archiving take on new levels of importance.
The average broadcaster now creates terabytes of video content every day. In parallel, decisions must be made about what is important, what should be stored and archived, and how best to do so. As storage requirements increase exponentially and broadcasters are running out of on-premises disk and tape space, many content producers have turned to media asset management solutions that include cloud-based storage as part of their archiving strategy.
In recognition of this, Ross recently integrated Amazon S3 Glacier storage, an Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) storage class, as an integral part of the Ross range of server and media asset management solutions.
Amazon S3 Glacier fits with Ross Video's roadmap for storage solutions. "In the next few releases of Streamline, our asset management solution, we will introduce rule-based toolsets to automate the process of moving content across multiple storage options," said Chris Kelly, product manager, asset and storage management, Ross.
He added, "This is where Amazon S3 Glacier will shine. The value, reliability, speed, and efficiency will further simplify the work of archiving this daily-generated content. Decades from now, our customers can have full confidence that the content they rely on to tell the story will be safe and sound and ready to air."
