Support multiplatform content creation of indigenous people

Colombia. By signing an inter-administrative agreement with the Regional Indigenous Council of Cauca (CRIC), the Ministry of Information and Communications Technologies (MinTIC) will contribute to strengthening the communications program of the Cauca councils.

This work, which takes place within the framework of Decree 1811 of 2017 issued by the Ministry of the Interior, will be executed through different lines of action, as a strategy to make visible the organizational political process, cultural strengthening, territorial defense and empowerment of its media.

There are $1,000 million delivered by MinTIC, of which $880 million are for the development of 6 lines of action for the generation of own content, among which the production of spots to make visible the processes of indigenous peoples, in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the CRIC and the production of multiplatform pieces that promote the use and appropriation of ICTs.

These lines of action are developed within the framework of the Public Communication Policy of and for Indigenous Peoples and the Indigenous System of Intercultural Own Communication (SICPI), where it is determined that the pedagogical and recursive appropriation of ICTs is a challenge and a necessity at present, to strengthen the processes of visibility and vindication of indigenous rights and the conditions for intercultural dialogue.

This agreement also creates special mechanisms for the development of the commitments acquired by the National Government with the CRIC, and in compliance with the agreements established in the Mixed Commission, for actions to prevent and mitigate COVID-19.

The remaining $120 million is for the strengthening of communication actions with communities in the framework of the emergency caused by COVID-19, through the realization of virtual talks and videos highlighting the work of the indigenous guard in the prevention and control of the coronavirus in the indigenous territories of Cauca.

These contents will be disseminated through the network of stations and zonal communication collectives of the network of the Association of Indigenous Media of Colombia (AMCIC) and other technological tools that serve as a spearhead for cultural strengthening, territorial defense and resistance.
