Argentina. The Argentine government resolved a series of provisions for mobile and fixed telephony, Internet and Pay-TV services to suspend price increases until August 31, 2020, in order to alleviate the situation of users affected by the quarantine.
In addition to the freeze, another measure has been taken in favor of users, which consists of making available inclusive postpaid Mobile Telephony and Internet plans; of mobile prepaid and fixed internet for all people who request the benefit, with a fixed price until September 30. The objective of these is that people who go through economic difficulties during the quarantine can change plans and access a service that guarantees connectivity at an affordable price.
In this regard, Claudio Ambrosini said that "after having had a meeting with the President of the Nation, the Executive Branch resolved with the agreement of the parties to suspend the increases in cellular telephony, fixed, internet and pay TV until August 31 of this year. It is a measure that will relieve all Argentines, since in these times of pandemic communication has become an essential service."
"For those who can not continue paying, we have implemented complementary services, which supply with a benefit very similar to the one they had, both for postpaid plans, prepaid and internet to the home, with which the package of measures cover all the needs for these moments," concluded the president of Enacom.
In relation to this, the benefit "reduced service" will be extended that guarantees the connectivity of users with prepaid mobile phone and internet system, and price maintenance until October 31, 2020 (today in force until May 31 by DNU No. 426/2020).
Likewise, as part of the agreement assumed, the lending companies undertake not to make redundancies during the term of the same.
This agreement is in addition to the measures provided by the national government to guarantee connectivity and full access to the necessary information for all citizens, which is why information and communication technologies (ICT) were declared an essential activity in the framework of the pandemic.
