Latin America. Due to the mobility restrictions that have been seen in different countries due to Covid-19, the consumption of the internet and platforms such as Youtube, Netflix, Amazon has increased highly. The European Union was the first to ask these companies to ensure that they are using telecommunications networks as efficiently as possible.
That's why Netflix announced that it implemented a way to reduce traffic on networks by 25%, and started with Italy and Spain, where the impact was greatest. Within 48 hours, they achieved the goal and are now implementing the same measure in the rest of Europe.
The company clarified that in terms of quality, the measure maintains the total resolution of the video. It usually maintains different sequences of the same title within each type of resolution and the measure adopted is that they removed the highest bandwidth sequences within each category.
Netflix also reported that it has received requests from some Latin American ISPs to reduce bandwidth as much as possible. For them they have also reduced traffic by 25% with a measure similar to how they did in Europe.
