Telemundo debuts AEQ intercom system during El Grito

Mexico. Every night of September 15, the Mexican central government holds a ceremony open to the public to commemorate "the cry" of Mexican Independence in the Plaza del Zócalo Capitalino, located in the historic center of Mexico City.

This esplanade, listed as the second largest central square in the world, occupies a rectangular area of approximately 46,800 square meters. The capacity of the "scream" ceremony has been estimated at 130,000 people.

For the coverage of this event, Telemundo Mexico, with Gerald Malpartida heading the engineering area, has used AEQ's new Xplorer for its communications with Miami.

To carry out the event successfully, Telemundo's engineering staff has deployed a technological infrastructure that has allowed, despite the large number of people present, to provide two-way audio service to communicate to its correspondents located on the esplanade of the Zócalo, with its headquarters in Miami through high-quality links.

Telemundo's communications hub in the Zócalo has been implemented in the upper part of a building known as the Jewelry Center, located at the front of the central esplanade. From this point, a connection has been made through a VPN link to the headquarters in Miami, in addition to providing connectivity with its studios in Mexico.

Once the link is made, the AEQ CrossNET matrix located in Mexico City, where it centralizes a system of user panels of the TP8000 series, can send instructions from them to the Xplorer of its correspondents in the Plaza del Zócalo, while keeping open an intercom route between the Miami Production Center, and the Xplorer of the square, which received the IFB from Miami through the two access points.

It is important to note that with only two access points it has been possible to service 4 Xplorer in 5G with high audio quality and low delay, covering much of the esplanade:

In the field, the technical team and reporters have been able to move freely within the area, thanks to the "roaming" function that Xplorer allows.

In addition, a link between the Phoenix Venus 3 and Phoenix Alio audiocodecs has been implemented as a backup. This last portable audiocodec was deployed on the esplanade of the Zócalo to offer service to personnel in the field.
