Primestream shows possibilities in media acquisition

Latin America. For any media project, the initial acquisition of content is arguably the most important stage in the workflow. Cameras in the field need mobility, flexibility and reliability, especially in live and multi-camera situations. Control room operators need to not only monitor incoming content, but also add information to support asset management, editing, and distribution requirements later in the process.

Even when moving files from an external storage location to the production environment, insufficient or erroneous metadata can be very costly as the project progresses. That's why Primestream has expanded and improved its acquisition and intake capabilities.

For live capture, Primestream has incorporated new formats and streaming methods into its offering, adding to its scalable multi-channel ingest system, options including HEVC and other compressed and uncompressed formats in resolutions up to 4K, HDR and VR/360.

The system now supports all major IP-based transport protocols, including HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), Network Device Interface (NDI), and SMPTE-IP. In addition, Primestream has added support for cameras with transmission via cellular networks and supports most professional IP cameras based on cellular networks. Live IP and SDI acquisition works in conjunction with transferring files from virtually any device or storage.

What's new is the real-time transcoding capability that generates files in any number of desired formats for proxy, work files, quality control (QC) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) analysis and final file output, all while ingesting the content. Editors can work with files as they are being ingested, having the fastest possible access to content.

Regardless of how content arrives, Primestream's modular architecture provides organizations with a complete set of tools for metadata tagging, workflow control, integration of editing applications, review and approvals, and distribution management, including complete OTT content preparation and XML export.

This allows companies to maintain their workflows, while adopting the latest technologies and reducing infrastructure complexity and costs. Core modules include Primestream Xchange™ and Review Hub™, now available as on-premises, cloud-based, or hybrid deployments. These deployment options mean that companies can flexibly scale operations based on demand as projects take off and are completed.

A key new capability this year is to expand metadata sources to include AI engines from all major vendors, including AWS, Google, and IBM while generating new capabilities for AI visualization. Primestream stores AI data in its native format and presents the data in Primestream Elastic Viewer™, which can be customized to display different combinations of fonts and filters as well as dynamically change and display different types of results in a multitrack timeline against the image.
