Latin America. Avid announced that Media Composer will offer native support for Apple's ProRes RAW camera codec and support for ProRes playback and encoding on Windows. In addition, Apple will produce 64-bit set-top boxes for DNxHR and DNxHD codecs within the Professional Video Formats package that is available from Apple as a free download for all users.
With these integrations, content creators and post-production companies will be able to save time during the creative narrative process and will be able to natively create high-quality ProRes content, no matter what their operating system is.
ProRes is a high-performance editing codec that delivers high-quality, low-complexity multistream images for optimal real-time editing. The codec will be available for Media Composer users on Windows and supports SD, HD, 2K, 4K and higher formats while maintaining impressive image quality and handling reduced storage times.
Media Composer for macOS and Windows was completely redesigned for its 2019 version and will now feature native support for ProRes RAW. ProRes RAW applies ProRes compression to the media to provide the flexibility of RAW video with ProRes performance so you can edit the high-resolution content currently in use.
Finally, the continued availability of DNxHD and DNxHR Avid set-top boxes for macOS is a tremendous benefit for content creators using Apple and Avid products, and will ensure the longevity of DNx material that is encoded in MXF and QuickTime files.
