IFT gives advice to those interested in social concessions

Mexico. With the aim of providing indigenous communities and peoples with information and advice that will allow them to obtain a concession for broadcasting services, the Federal Institute of Telecommunications, IFT, will carry out the second stage of the program of advice and reception of applications in states where it is contemplated to allocate spectrum for community and indigenous concessions this year, in accordance with the provisions of the Annual Frequency Band Program (PABF) 2019.

The Programme for the Promotion and Promotion of Community and Indigenous Broadcasting, the first stage of which was carried out in April, consists of two phases: the first phase will provide technical and legal advice on the process of granting community and indigenous social concessions; and in the second, the documentation of concession applications will be collected for the start of the corresponding procedure.

The purpose of this project, which is part of the IFT's 2019 Annual Work Plan, is that there is accompaniment and closeness with the applicants so that the projects prosper and achieve their objectives. The final idea is that indigenous peoples and communities have their own means of communication, and that the population receives their own information and content that contributes to promoting their identity, preserving their values, traditions, languages, and even their own worldview and interpretation of events.

The first actions of this second stage of the program will be carried out on September 26 and 27, days in which IFT representatives will go to towns in Baja California, Chihuahua, Oaxaca, Jalisco, San Luis Potosí, Sonora, Tabasco and Yucatán to provide technical and legal advice on how to apply for a concession for social, community or indigenous use; and from September 30 to October 11 they will go permanently to the same locations to receive documentation from the interested parties, which facilitates the delivery of the same, in this way the interested parties will not have to go to the IFT offices in Mexico City.
