Colombian radio celebrates 90 years with 1,596 stations

Colombia. Radio is a means of expression that fosters and contributes to the social, economic, cultural and political development of the country. Since 1929 it has reinvented and consolidated itself as one of the media with the greatest reach and coverage, achieving wide recognition in Latin America and the world thanks to its quality and innovation.

Despite the arrival of other media, including television and digital channels, sound broadcasting is still more alive than ever and constantly expanding, adapting to new formats such as podcasts and online radio, which have allowed it to be present in the national territory as a direct and effective means of communicative influence in the different sectors and social groups.

According to MinTic data, the country currently has 1,596 stations, of which 671 are commercial, 298 of public interest and 627 are community. These have contributed invaluable to interaction, dialogue and cohesion in the most remote communities, facilitating the encounter and strengthening of different cultural identities, as well as the articulation and sustainability of initiatives around citizen coexistence.

Colombian radio is a benchmark of quality, talent and innovation, and is one of the most accepted and widely reached media in our territory. In this regard, the ICT Minister, Sylvia Constaín, congratulated the concessionaires of the country's broadcasting service and indicated that "in the celebration of its 90 years, we reaffirm our commitment to this means of communication, that which reaches all corners of Colombia to expand its operation and thus facilitate access to information for the benefit of citizens."
