MTC intervened two pirate stations affecting aviation

Peru. The Ministry of Transport and Communications, MTC, intervened two broadcasting stations that operated illegally on frequencies assigned to the Peruvian Corporation of Airports and Commercial Aviation (Corpac S.A.), putting at risk the communication with the aircraft during the provision of the air passenger transport service.

"Illegal or pirate broadcasters represent a serious risk to public safety, as they could cause communication problems with aircraft, with the danger that this constitutes for the safety and safeguarding of people's lives," said Deputy Communications Minister Virginia Nakagawa.

The General Directorate of Inspections and Sanctions in Communications (DGFSC) of the MTC intercepted the broadcasters and seized the telecommunications equipment used by these illegal stations, located in Ate Vitarte and San Juan de Lurigancho, in Metropolitan Lima.

"These actions were carried out quickly and in a timely manner. The interventions had the participation of the National Police and Public Ministry, who contribute to our fight against informality in communications services," said Nakagawa Morales.

He added that, as of July 2019, the MTC has seized 389 transmission and communication equipment used by pirate broadcasters. This, as part of the 83 operations carried out to intervene in these illegal services.

Equipment used by pirate stations evades payment to the State of royalties and commercial exploitation fees for the use of the radio spectrum; as well as various taxes and taxes.

The MTC recalled that the unauthorized use of the radio spectrum to transmit telecommunications signals constitutes the crime of aggravated theft, punishable by up to eight years in prison. It is also a very serious infraction, sanctioned with up to 50 Tax Units (UIT) equivalent to S / 210 000.
