Started spectrum allocation auction process

Colombia. The Ministry of Information and Communications Technologies is advancing in its purpose of massifying access to the Internet. To this end, it published the draft resolution that initiates the process of assigning permits for the use of radio spectrum in the 700 MHz, 1,900 MHz and 2,500 MHz bands, which includes the requirements and conditions that will provide legal and technical certainty to the interested parties.

"With the publication of the draft resolution, we are complying with Colombians. The country has not assigned permits for the use of spectrum for land mobile communications for five years. With this process, we will provide the conditions for more Colombians to access the Internet and have better opportunities. This allocation is made with the most favorable guidelines for competition and investment, which will be reflected in greater coverage for all citizens thanks to the modifications introduced by the Law on Modernization of the ICT sector (Law 1978 of 2019)", said the ICT Minister, Sylvia Constaín.

The spectrum auction will expand coverage and benefit the population that lacks mobile broadband Internet connectivity, mainly in rural or hard-to-reach areas. In this way, thousands of citizens will be able to count on state-of-the-art services that ensure a better quality of life.

Spectrum allocation becomes the cornerstone of the massification of the Internet, which will boost social and economic development, as well as competition and investment in the sector, which will be reflected in greater opportunities and better service offers at lower costs for the population.
