Peru. Radio amateurs are engaged in the emission and reception of messages by radio, in special frequency bands. The work of these volunteers becomes important in emergency situations such as earthquakes, tsunamis or floods, as they lend their collaboration to disseminate relevant recommendations in the affected areas.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications, MTC, updated -through Supreme Decree No. 024-2019-MTC, the regulation that guides this activity so that it is in accordance with new technologies and regulatory modifications related to the simplification of procedures.
"Radio amateurs have helped a lot in complicated cases such as the earthquake of 1970 or the one that occurred in Pisco. Therefore, the MTC considers it very necessary to update the regulations dating from 1995, date from which it has not had any change, nor update, "said the general director of Authorizations in Telecommunications of the MTC, Mariella Carrasco.
The regulations regulate the requirements and procedures for obtaining authorizations and standardize their term of validity. In addition, it extends the time to submit renewal applications and adapts the amateur radio frequency bands according to the National Frequency Allocation Plan.
In this sense, a period of 60 working days is granted, counted from the day following the publication of the standard, for radio amateurs to request a new authorization without losing the last category obtained.
Likewise, in compliance with the Inter-American Convention on the International Amateur Radio Permit (IARP), the ex officio issuance of the international permit and the operating license is regulated so that it can operate when visiting some of the member countries of the Inter-American Telecommunications Commission.
