Argentina. The National Communications Agency, Enacom, was part of the meeting held at the San Martín Palace, in which the Argentine Delegation is in charge of coordinating the Subgroup and the Working Commissions. The country holds the Pro tempore presidency of Mercosur during the first half of this year, which is why it was established as the venue for the meeting with the purpose of further strengthening regional cooperation in this area.
In this sense, the head of Enacom, Silvana Giudici, when leading the opening ceremony said: "I want to highlight the permanent work in telecommunications with the member countries of MERCOSUR and we try to generate a joint policy that allows us to compete in this globalized world of communications and this area, it is very important to find common points to improve, individually and collectively, lines of work that help us in our global competitiveness both in the market of communications and technological innovations, as well as in our cultural production".
Throughout the week, various panels and meetings will be held in which officials from the Secretariat of Information and Communications Technologies (SETIC), foreign ministry, Argentine Post, Naval Prefecture, Customs and SAPEM of Missions will participate.
More than 20 officials from Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Bolivia (as a State in the Process of Accession), represented by Roque Roy Meléndez Soleto, Executive Director of the Telecommunications and Transport Regulation and Control Authority of Bolivia (ATT), also confirmed attendance.
Sub-Working Group No. 1 (SGT 1) is composed of four Thematic Commissions: Postal Affairs, Broadcasting, Radiocommunications and Public Telecommunications Services.
Some of the topics that are on the agenda of the event are: advancing an agreement on roaming; implement a Mercosur Digital Agenda; adapting the rules in pursuit of a Postal Market as a driver of trade; agree on the different Manuals for the Coordination of Services in Border Areas; consolidate SGT 1 as an area for the resolution of cross-border interference; and to consolidate common positions for the forthcoming ITU World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC19) and the Congress of the Universal Postal Union.
Finally, the entity stressed that communications are a fundamental factor for the development of different countries. That is why it is important to consolidate a regional alliance and, in addition, to advance in agreements with other blocs to, in this way, achieve a better positioning at the global level.
