MTC will enable online declarations of broadcasters

Peru. The Ministry of Transport and Communications of Peru, MTC, announced that next December, the sworn declarations of gross monthly and / or annual income made by the holders of authorizations for the commercial exploitation of the broadcasting service may be presented virtually.

This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Communications Virginia Nakagawa, during the Congress of Journalism, Radio and Television 2018, held in the city of Arequipa.

"The implementation of the online presentation of affidavits will reduce the costs of mobilizing companies and will give us greater control over their economic obligations," said the deputy minister.

To date, sworn declarations of gross monthly and/or annual income – which are used to determine the respective payment of the fee – can only be made in person at the offices of the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC). However, with the implementation of this new virtual system, holders will be able to fulfill their obligations in a more agile and efficient way.

It should be noted that payments can also be made from the web, using Visa or MasterCard debit/credit cards.

Stations in the country
Deputy Minister Nakagawa also reported that, as of September 30, Cusco (503), Cajamarca (464), Ancash (401), Lima (398) and Arequipa (329) are the regions with the most radio stations in the country. At the opposite extreme, the regions of Tumbes, Madre de Dios and Moquegua are the ones with the fewest stations.

In the case of television stations, during the same period, Cusco (191), Puno (162), Lima and Callao (139) are the regions with the highest number of stations. In the specific case of Arequipa, it has 96 radio stations, so we will continue to improve the coverage and quality of the transmission. It was specified that Tumbes, Ucayali and Amazonas are the regions that have the least TV channels.

"With the modification made to the Code of Ethics of the Radio and Television Law, the complaint mechanism is standardized, allowing citizens to submit complaints for content they consider inappropriate in a simpler way and with procedural guarantees. This strengthens self-regulation," Deputy Minister Nakagawa said.
