PRAI brings together Latam regulators in Mexico

Mexico. Regulation, Digital Convergence, Pluralism and Inclusion are the main topics of discussion of the Third Ordinary General Assembly of the Platform of Regulators of the Audiovisual Sector of Ibero-America (PRAI), chaired by Catalina Parot Donoso, in her capacity as President of the National Television Council of Chile (CNTV).

The meeting takes place this week in Mexico City, with activities that will last until September 27, and its main objective is to advance in matters related to the regulation of the audiovisual sector at the Ibero-American level.

Representatives of more than 15 countries participate in this assembly, among which are Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Spain, Bolivia, Mexico, Morocco, Uruguay and Peru. In this instance, those convened will discuss regulatory challenges in Latin America, regulatory models in Europe, those developed in our continent, new formats and nascent consumers, among other topics that are of general interest, since they directly affect the user.

The Platform of Regulators of the Audiovisual Sector emerged in the city of Santiago de Chile in 2010 due to the concern on the part of different instances in the matter of having strong regulators to face the challenges that convergence, digital and internet suppose and make up a platform that would allow to exchange experiences and resources, coordinate some actions and, above all, generate an academic and research floor that would contribute to regulatory decision-making.

Some main functions of the Platform are the following: to be a space for joint reflection on the regulation of television and other forms of audiovisual, to become a platform for the exchange of information on legal and regulatory aspects of common interest to all regulators, and to be configured as a space for discussion and solution of problems between regulatory entities.

For this task, experts in the field will meet in the Mexican capital to analyze the regulatory agenda in the face of digital convergence and new technologies from the perspective of media and audiovisual content.
