Content Observatory delivered report with 74 processes

Colombia. The Observatory of Audiovisual Contents of the National Television Authority, was born in 2015, and is made up of 8 research groups located in Colombian universities, distributed in different areas of the country (East, West, North, South, Coffee Axis, Center and San Andrés). These groups are led by a professor with doctoral training, a co-researcher magister, and five professional research assistants in the area of media.

The Observatory systematically observes audiovisual media content, constructs methodologies to analyze and interpret its contents, and disseminates the results to society in general through publications and different communicative pieces. This implies, not only a refined process of conception, design, implementation and evaluation of the objects and problems to be investigated, but also of reflection on the work of the producers, of knowledge and on the way they build and transmit the results of their analyses. On the other hand, the public nature of the results of the observation allows and enables the participation of society, and encourages, through the awareness and motivation of the public, that the different sectors feel increasingly concerned.

The observatory has now completed its second phase of research with 70 observation exercises on the editorial policy of national, private, regional, community and subscription public television. In addition, it gives an account of specific exercises that allow analyzing the contents referred to the representation of emerging groups, genres and formats, and also how young people are assumed in audiovisual content, the environment in the coffee axis, the border issue; likewise, the contents financed by the FONTV are analyzed and monitored.

These research results energize audiovisual content in Colombia, agenda themes, inspire reflection, and show the trend of representations made by the media in the face of specific topics that are currently broadcast on Colombian television.

It is clear that although this commitment of the Observatory has been an initiative of the ANTV, it is necessary to mention that the reports presented here are the result of analysis and theoretical reflection of each University, and are supported by their research experience in the audiovisual field.
