Colombia. From July 24 to 28, 2018, Bogotá will host the 12th International Radio Biennial – Radiospheres: the future present. This event, which will take place at the Planetarium of Bogotá, is the most important in Latin America dedicated to radio. It is the opportunity to participate in dialogue with creators, researchers, students, professionals and academics from various parts of the world who will review the current state of the environment, its advances and challenges.
The International Radio Biennial is an initiative promoted by Radio Educación de México. This time, and on the 20th anniversary of sustained organization and for being the dual year of Colombia and Mexico, the Radio Sub-Management of RTVC – Public Media System with its radio stations Radio Nacional de Colombia and Radiónica, has received the commission and the challenge of making the country the headquarters of this edition and thus have a broad content agenda, to convene voices from public radio, commercial radio and alternative radio, nationally and internationally, as well as from intellectuals and creators who think from different shores and experiences the place that this medium occupies in social transformation.
A radio for otherness, participation and good living, theme of the Biennial
The role of radio in the exchange and movement of the popular music of the continent; their presence at sporting events; its facilitating role for ethnic, economic and cultural inclusion; their ability to narrate socio-political phenomena such as migration, discrimination and collective searches for peace; the challenges posed by new technologies in terms of journalistic innovation, sustainability and competition; as well as the generation of new formats and languages for the achievement of its informative, entertainment and collective care function will be some of the topics that will be discussed with more than 50 influential voices from Mexico, France, Guatemala, Chile, Argentina, Ecuador, Venezuela, Bolivia, Peru, Spain, Uruguay, Brazil and different regions of Colombia.
The venue will be the Planetarium of Bogotá where we will open the doors so that, free of charge, the public can live a 360° experience that allows them to approach from feeling, thinking and acting to the main debates, proposals and advances on the radio medium. And for those who are outside the city, they will be able to watch the event through streaming and join the conversation from the digital platforms of Radio Nacional de Colombia and Radiónica with the numerals #BienalInternacionalDeRadio, #Radiosferas, #LaRadioDelFuturo and #YoAmoLaRadio.
