Mexico. Despite the growing use and exploitation of fiber optic networks, many operators still consider their implementation as a great investment, despite the advantages offered in the future by their timely incorporation, said Pedro Guerrero, telecommunications engineer at Fyco, a supplier of supplies for FTTH, HFC, FTTA, DTH and LAN networks.
"One of the things we're doing is training, getting people to see that fiber optics is a high-performance, low-cost alternative and the thinking is 'fiber is more expensive.' No, copper is more expensive and what's more, if the operation is carried out you end up noticing that it is more expensive to have a copper network than to have fiber. So there are important things: that people know the advantages of fiber, that they know from the choice how they selected from specifications; as he selected the best fiber, the best connector to make an entire system that meets the specifications. After you learn it, it will operate, accompanied by the collection of information, digitization of plans, the design part, the installation, operation, everything," he said.
The specialist commented that in addition the start of operations of the Shared Network in Mexico will offer new business opportunities to manufacturing and supplier companies such as Fyco: "It is a very necessary thing, because there is already infrastructure that can be operated by other additional people; they are not going to have to build or extend that network, there is already a backbone, there is a fiber core that has been increased or underused. By being able to share or use it by more people, more companies and extend that network and the benefits for who they are: for consumers. Because there is a high-speed network and in the end there is going to be more competition and that competition is going to include a decrease in price and an increase in quality which is going to really favor us all."
