Use of telecommunications in the World Cup

Mexico. For a whole month, starting on June 14, we will be able to participate in one of the sporting events with the highest attendance of spectators, the Football World Cup, based in Russia. From its inauguration, an element that will be present is the traffic pressure of telecommunications signals that we will exert on all available networks.

This will be the highest, with the exception of when natural phenomena such as earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, among others, occur. The World Cup is one of the events that capture all the attention and international traffic on mobile devices, internet, satellites, televisions and social networks.

Although in the past practically television was the only way to enjoy the matches of the tournament, now we have a greater diversity of devices and platforms that use the network infrastructure to disseminate these sports contents and that open the possibility of interaction during the occurrence of the game.

In this sense, it highlights the importance that mobile devices have had and will have as means of access to live broadcasts and statistics of the World Cup. They even serve second and third screens where it is possible to enjoy additional content, cameras from different angles, among other special features available in each match.

It should be remembered that, in its previous edition, Brazil 2014, just over 3,200 million people around the world enjoyed from their televisions the coverage of the matches, according to FIFA figures, while 280 million did so from a mobile device, a number that is estimated to double for this year.

In this World Cup edition, the number of active Smartphones in the hands of Mexicans will amount to 103.1 million, a growth of 130% compared to the previous World Cup. Among these, just over 8 out of 10 have access to Mobile Broadband services, so they will have content and information about the meetings at all times and in all places.

Additionally, it highlights the offer and accessibility of mobile applications with specialized sports content, such that 5.5 million people are users of these in the country.

Another important element in this Globalist interaction will be social networks, platforms on which users are informed and share their impressions and views of the matches. During this World Cup they will take on an importance never seen before, accounting for 76 million potential users, an increase of 50% compared to the 51 million registered 4 years ago.

Thus, this year's World Cup will be an event that will undoubtedly attract the attention of a large majority of viewers and users of mobile devices around the world and especially in Mexico. This mass phenomenon is consolidated as a trigger for the consumption of telecommunications services. It is also an important catalyst in the adoption of access devices to the transmissions of this sporting event, with its consequent positive effect both in the generation and transmission of content and other partners, advertising revenues and use of platforms.
