GatesAir bets on new broadcasters in Mexico

Mexico. 148 new digital terrestrial television channels will be released in Mexico starting next October. To provide them with technology, GatesAir, a manufacturer of digital TV signal transmitters, prepares solutions appropriate to their budgets, said Diego Giles, sales manager for Latin America of the company.

"On the release of TV concessions in Mexico, we are setting our eye there as well. This case is going to be different from the third national TV network, because there was a single tender. Now there will be several and we are waiting for those we are detecting as new awardees to provide them with our solutions. We had a lot of success with the image people. This success also happens in other places, such as in Chile with MegaVisión," he said during his presence in Mexico during Expo Cine, Video y Televisión 2017.

He added: "For the remainder of 2017 we have a lot of expectations and we are going to achieve it. We are working to achieve the goals that the company has, which we believe are realistic. On the subject of free-to-air TV there is a lot of debate, about what the future is going to be. Free-to-air TV is free and will never die. With the use of spectrum, which means digitalization, we are going there and that will continue, and that implies renewal of equipment."

Giles mentioned GatesAir's expectation: "In Mexico we expect to get half of the transmitter market, or maybe more. Not only do we offer solutions, there is an important market, but we are in the premium segment of brands. Our equipment is manufactured to last over time. Traditionally a transmission equipment was purchased to last 30 years; now for 15 or 20 years, but it has to be running 24/7, every day. Such an investment needs commensurate support. Our company has 90 years in the market and for example, we have spare parts for equipment that is 30 years old. Customers value that very much."
