Arri receives Scientific and Technical Award for Alexa

International. In the Ballroom of the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles, the 89th Annual Presentation of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) Scientific and Technical Awards took place. With the so-called Technical® Oscars, the organization recognizes relevant achievements in the film industry.

This year's list of award winners includes the German company Arri. This manufacturer of technology for the film industry was honored with the Scientific and Technical Award for the advanced concept and innovative technology of its Digital Camera System for Alexa Camera of Super 35 format. This prestigious recognition is the 19th Scientific and Technical Award awarded to Arri over the course of its 100-year history.

Alexa was introduced to the market in 2010 and its system quickly became the most reliable and most widely used digial camera system for professional film and television production worldwide. With a highly upgradable architecture Alexa has evolved through software updates to keep up with the rapid evolution of changing industry needs. Over the past five years, every film to win the Academy® Award for Best Cinematography has been captured with Alexa.

"With an intuitive design and attractive image reproduction, both achieved through close collaboration with filmmakers, Arri cameras are among the first digital cameras to be widely adopted by cinematographers," the Academy said.

Members of the project team traveled to Los Angeles to participate in the celebration and to receive the award consisting of an Academy Plaque. Among them were Franz Kraus, the member of the Executive Committee of Arri AG in charge of technology.

Unlike the Academy® Awards to be held and broadcast on February 26, the achievements awarded with the Scientific and Technical Awards do not need to be developed and presented during the year 2016. Rather, they must demonstrate a proven track record of having brought meaningful value to the entire film industry.
