Peru. Continuing with its strategy against radio piracy, the Ministry of Transport and Communications, MTC, carried out a new operation in the district of Comas. MTC inspectors managed to dismantle three illegally operating stations on Cerro Misti.
These are the pirate stations Radio Carnaval (89.9 MHz), Radio Armonía Mix (92.9) and Radio Santa Apolonia (104.3), who were intervened in flagrante delicto broadcasting signals without authorization from the MTC. These illegal companies used unauthorized radio frequencies, evaded taxes and violated copyright.
It should be noted that the MTC has proposed for this year to carry out unannounced operations in different areas of the country. And for this it is leading a multisectoral work with the support of the PNP, Sunat, Indecopi, among other institutions.
In that sense, the MTC recalled that illegally using the radio spectrum for the transmission of telecommunications signals constitutes a crime of aggravated theft. According to the Criminal Code, he receives a penalty of up to eight (8) years in prison; while according to the Telecommunications Law, those responsible can receive fines of up to 50 UIT. Even those who facilitate this illegal use and advertise in these informal stations, the fine ranges from 10 to 30 ITU.
