Colombia. In the course of an extensive renovation of studios, the RCN chain installed two mc²36 mixing consoles of the pioneering German technology Lawo, to serve as the main and redundant mixing systems.
Lawo consoles are in use for RCN News (NTN24), the channel's 24-hour news service in Colombia. The main console is a mc²36 of 40 faders, supported by a mc²36 area of 24 faders for redundancy. The complete system includes a Dallis interface with SDI I/O and GPIO cards to handle the necessary AfV (Audio-follow-Video) functions to automate some procedures.
RCN's requirements for equipment upgrades – and audio mixing systems in particular – included gaining operational efficiency, establishing flexibility in remote control facility workflows, automation, and advanced AfV and Automix functionality.
In their investigation, the RCN team tasked with specifying the renovation determined that Lawo best met their needs. In addition, Lawo's console features, audio quality, customization, and flexibility proved essential to getting its backing.
"The two mc²36 consoles are the right solution for a 24/7 broadcast challenge – and in addition to the benefits of automation, AFV for multi-video sources and mxGUI control software, it was the remote diagnosis through the web browser and the Lawo application a pleasant surprise during the demo," said Andrés Galeano, Technical Head of RCN Colombia.
