Mexico. In making the opening statement of the 58th National Radio and Television Week, the Commissioner President of the Federal Institute of Telecommunications, Gabriel Contreras, said that radio and television have been an active agent of change that today makes Mexico the society it is and the seed of what we want Mexico's society to be in the future.
Edgar Pereda Gómez, President of the Board of Directors of the National Chamber of the Radio and Television Industry, in his message to the more than 400 delegates from all over the country participating in this convention, emphasized the need for the Authority to support the media to continue their service to society: "Today, in the face of the times to come, we need timely and practical responses from the Authority, taking into account our nature as a public service and our nature as a media, but we can only achieve that by working together," he said.
The President of the CIRT assured that the challenges that the Industry has require the union of all those who are part of it, since "only through active participation can we achieve our goals, without divisions, because we have the same convictions and objectives".
Pereda Gómez highlighted the commitment of the members of the CIRT by recalling that in times of contingency or natural disasters, the media fulfill a social task of disseminating security and civil protection measures, acting accordingly: "There is no need for any authority to remember our role, because we have always been aware of the responsibility we have towards the Mexican people," Assured.
For his part, Gabriel Contreras pointed out that the Gross Domestic Product of the Broadcasting Sector grew 6.5 percent, the jobs generated by this sector grew by about 20 percent in the last year alone, which reflects that the industry is, within the framework of the 58th Radio and Television Week, as strong as ever, but he acknowledged that technological development is causing the broadcasting sector to face competition it had not seen before.
The work of the radio broadcasters' convention culminated in the Traditional Radio and Television Meal, where President Enrique Peña Nieto presented the 2016 ANTENA CIRT Awards and a series of dialogue meetings on broadcasting was held.
