Latin America. The director of the University System of Radio, Television and Cinematography (SURTyC) of the Benemérita University of Guadalajara, Gabriel Torres Espinoza, was elected President of the Board of Directors of the Association of Ibero-American Educational and Cultural Televisions – ATEI for the period 2016 - 2020, during the development of the activities of the X Ordinary General Assembly of the Association, held on October 14 and 15, 2016, at the Centro de Las Artes San Luis Potosí Centenario, in San Luis Potosí.
With a total of 40 votes in favor, 2 blank and 3 abstentions, and after being submitted to the consideration of the representatives of the institutions attending the assembly, the proposal presented by the University of Guadalajara to integrate the new Board of Directors was the one of greater acceptance for the member members and their representatives.
Once the new Board of Directors was formed and having taken office, in the development of its first session in office, the teacher Gabriel Torres Espinoza was elected, unanimously as President of the highest governing body of the Association.
The assembly, installed and declared open by Enrique Vargas Flores, Coordinator of the Ibero-American Cultural Space and representative of Rebeca Grynspan Mayufis, Ibero-American Secretary General, was chaired by Dr. Jorge DaCunha Lima, representative of TV Cultura de Brasil and, outgoing President of the Board of Directors of ATEI and by the Secretary General of the Association, Alberto García Ferrer. This assembly was attended by representatives of 45 institutions from 10 Ibero-American countries.
ATEI is the Association of Ibero-American Educational and Cultural Televisions whose mission is to contribute to the development of Ibero-American education, science and culture through the use of television and other information and communication technologies.
The ATEI partner network is currently made up of 123 institutions, including public service television channels (national, regional and local), the Ministries and bodies responsible for Education and Culture at national, regional or local level in each country, universities or higher and postgraduate education institutions, social and cultural foundations and NGOs, and lifelong and vocational training centres.
