IFT publishes comparative report of service costs

Mexico. The Federal Institute of Telecommunications (IFT) will make available to interested parties in the coming days its "Report of Comparable Information on Plans and Rates of Fixed Services (Single Play) 2016", relating to fixed services for residential use of Internet, Fixed Telephony and Pay Television, in the single play modality offered in the market. 

The objective of this report is to provide users with useful information regarding the available offer so that they can compare and make better informed decisions.

The report, made from the information available to the Public Registry of Telecommunications as of July 15 and on the electronic pages of the concessionaires analyzed, contains different  variables  related to these three services: Internet, Fixed Telephony and Pay TELEVISION in the single play modality. It will be available on the Institute's Internet portal, www.ift.org.mx.

From the analysis of the Internet service offer, it was identified that 33% of the plans correspond to an advertised Download Speed between 4 Mbps and 9.99 Mbps; 25% of plans are between 10 Mbps and 20 Mbps, 21% have speeds less than 4 Mbps and the remaining 21% offer speeds greater than 20 Mbps. The analyzed Internet plans include an announced Download Speed of 2 Mbps and up to 100 Mbps.

On the other hand, it was found that 16% of the offer of analyzed plans have national coverage, 42% is offered simultaneously in different States and another 42% is available specifically in municipalities.

From the Fixed Telephony offer it is clear that 71% of the plans offer unlimited local Calls and 57% include unlimited LDI Calls/Minutes. Only 29% of plans simultaneously include Local Calling, Calling/Minutes to Mobile and LDI Calls/Minutes unlimitedly.

In terms of coverage, 14% of plans are offered with national coverage and 86% are available simultaneously in different states.

In the same way, from the Pay TV offer it was identified that 33% of the plans have a cost of between $ 200 and $ 300 per month, 31% between $ 300 and $ 400 per month, 19% in plans less than $ 200 per month and 17% in plans greater than $ 400 per month. Pay TV's analyzed plans include from 27 and up to 249 channels.

In terms of coverage, 31% of plans have national coverage, 50% are available simultaneously in different states and 19% are offered on a municipal basis.

In addition to the Report, the IFT makes available to users the "Telecommunications Services Comparator", an online tool that is updated periodically and that allows to compare in a simple and detailed way characteristics of the mobile and fixed service plans available in the country.

The data contained in the Report as well as in the tool, are strictly informative purposes and may be consulted on the site www.ift.org.mx, in the "Users and Audiences" section, in accordance with open data policies.
