Local broadcasting on the government's agenda

Peru. The broadcasters of Peru, organized in the Coordinator of Local Media of Peru and the Peruvian Chamber of Radio and Television, regarding the latest pronouncements and statements related to broadcasting services, we address public opinion to express the following:

We support the work proposal of the second Vice President of the Republic and current President in charge of the presidential office, Mercedes Araoz Fernández, to discuss self-regulation and improvement of broadcasting services.

We welcome the inclusion of local and regional media in the working groups led by the Second Vice-President, and in particular their attention to the problems of local radio and television.

The lack of quality in television content is not a problem exclusive to the large television networks in Lima. We recognize that the problem in the interior of the country is even more serious, due - among other aspects - to the lack of advertising investment in the local media.

In this regard, we support the government's proposal and willingness to regulate state advertising, taking into account local and regional media throughout the country. Peru is not just Lima. The citizens of Peru are not only in Lima and the big cities. Peru is more!.

We urge the Minister of Transport and Communications, Martin Vizcarra Cornejo and the member bodies  of the Radio and Television Advisory Council (CONCORTV), to comply with appointing their corresponding representatives, in such a way that CONCORTV, has a more effective and active intervention in the self-regulation and improvement of the contents in radio and television.

We thank the Association of Journalists of Peru for its pronouncement in favor of local and regional broadcasting by pointing out the following: "As the state is the first advertising advertiser, we request an equitable distribution that reaches the hundreds of television channels located throughout the country since in the current circumstances it only favors the so-called large national chains but centralized in Lima to the detriment of the small local companies existing in our wide national territory and that they have more harmony in their respective provinces and regions".

We call for the unity of local and regional broadcasting throughout the country. It's time to take the step we need.
