Colombia. The Communications Regulation Commission, CRC, presents for public consultation the first proposal to measure the development of the digital economy in the country.
The document "Towards a measurement of the Digital Economy in Colombia" calls for the participation of stakeholders in measuring the way ICTs can change business models and the results of productive activities in the country.
Through the comments received from sectors such as: agriculture, tourism, education, industry, guilds, academic organizations, research centers and incubators of innovation and entrepreneurship, among others, the CRC leads the first effort that is being advanced in the country, to measure the development of the Digital Economy.
Interested parties may express their opinion on the relevance of the first approach to the topic, indicate possible sources of information, provide new indicators, periodicity of measurement and other elements of intersectoral relevance.
"When there is a consolidated measurement mechanism, the country will have information that allows it to make strategic decisions in terms of public policy, private investment and regulation for the advancement of the digital economy," said Germán Darío Arias Pimienta, Executive Director of the CColombiaRC.
It is estimated that digitalization has contributed to 6.12% of GDP growth in Colombia, between 2005 and 2013. This dynamic establishes new challenges for the country's economy and of course for the definition of public and regulatory policy in telecommunications.
The socialized document focuses its consultation on the comparative evaluation of what has been carried out in other countries to analyze the impact of technology on traditional sectors of the economy. From this analysis, about 90 indicators are derived, grouped into 4 measurement dimensions (smart infrastructure, innovation, empowerment of society and employment).
