Internet providers provide Pay-TV services

Colombia. The National Association of Internet Service Providers, NAISP, of Colombia was created to have a representation of the sector in the face of the threat that occurred with the National Fiber Optic project. According to its manager, Héctor Jaime Vega, many of the providers of this service saw the stability of the business violated with this project and decided to join together to counteract the repercussions they could receive.

In an interview, Héctor Jaime Vega told us about his work and projects:

Luis Hernando Pinto: Why include in your plans to provide television services?
Héctor Jaime Vega:
When we participated as a support unit in Andina Link in 2015, it was not sad to see that the entrepreneurs who provide the cable television service were looking for how to enter to provide internet service and those who gave the internet service, they were looking for how to bring television to their customers, a difficult thing in this country that everything is licensed, everything is with permission, everything is regulated and also that they are separate legislations. In many other countries the service of what is telecommunication is unified, here they make the cake and distribute it among four or five. One would have to ask why the state does that. We seek the modernity of entertainment through the internet.

L.P.: How did the initiative of the first national MEETING of ISPs come about?
H.J.V.:
In a meeting in the park of the 93 of Bogotá, with Juliana Ariza and Lucia Morales, organizers of Andina Link, the idea arose of convening this first national meeting of ISP, which did not consist of something physical, it is not about sitting them down to receive talks or chair in the first meeting, it is about creating the figure itself, is to call on all ISPs, cablers, OTT developers, IPTV developers. I think it's time to have a meeting place between technology, developers, legislators and entrepreneurs who put their wealth into the issue of technology.

L.P.: What are you looking for with this meeting?
H.J.V.:
We want to strengthen the links between all, we are even already working on the internationalization of the organization, for more than a year we have made contact with CAPPI, Internet Chamber of Argentina, with the Association of small Internet providers of Chile and the National Internet Association of Spain.

What we are looking for is to lead that the Internet continues to remain neutral, we have already contacted the Governance table colombia chapter. Content on the Internet is a global issue, it is already being used, it is already developed and it is so much so that everyone is mute, the defenders of the use of the internet are looking for anti-legislation, if it is legislated it would break the primary objective for which the Internet was created, that of being able to access knowledge, to fun and content without any restrictions.

It seems to me that the striking thing about this first meeting is not physically to meet in a room, we were at Andina Link 2016, but the idea is to create that awareness that if we can get to unite a whole family that has to do with the modernity of entertainment through the Internet.

L.P.: What is the Association looking for?
H.J.V.:
We seek that all associates obtain in a short time quality certification, technical and administrative training plans, government benefits, inclusion in programs and developments that benefit the most vulnerable population led by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies, present initiatives and promote all government programs and aid, reach their final destination and those who have been the beneficiaries.
