Argentina. With a strong imprint of defense of the Law of Audiovisual Communication Services and the institutionality, the Federal Council of Audiovisual Communication, COFECA, held its XIII Extraordinary Session in the City of Buenos Aires. During the meeting, the Directors appointed for the new mandate were presented and the authorities of the Council were elected, as established in article 16 of Law 26,522.
The new Councillors were appointed by the National Executive Power through Decree 2570/15, at the proposal of the provinces and the different sectors of audiovisual communication (trade unions, public media, indigenous peoples, universities, rights managers and entities that bring together the private commercial and non-profit sectors).
Ignacio Golobisky, representative for the province of Tucumán, was elected, by a large majority of his peers, as the new President of the Council to replace Pedro Báez. The Councillors elected, also by a large majority, David Furland, trade union representative as Vice-President of the Board for the first term and Osvaldo Francés, from the SME sector, for the second term. Finally, Eliana Persky was ratified in the Executive Secretariat of that body.
The councilors issued a statement urging the elected head of the National Executive Power to fully respect and enforce the Audiovisual Communication Services Law, and supporting the institutionality of the AFSCA and RTA boards in the face of statements about their possible removal.
In this sense, they decided to manage a meeting with the authorities of both organizations as well as with other officials who assume in areas related to this matter with the aim of working on the progress of the processes for the award of licenses and authorizations provided for in the LSCA.
