Colombia. Recently, the use of drones was regulated in Colombia in order to safeguard national security and maintain control over the use of these devices that are gradually becoming part of the environment as they have more common uses.
Initially these unmanned aircraft, determined by Civil Aeronautics as Art Remotely Manned Aircraft, known as UAVs/Drones or RPAS, had a sporting or recreational use with flights within the permitted airspace, such as model airplane runways, which implied little regulation.
When these elements were given commercial exploitation, aeronautics took on the task of creating its regulations. Today the following requirements must be met if the drone is to fly in cities:
- Private pilot license with ground course lasting six months.
- 40 flight hours and 200 takeoffs and landings, previous, certified by the aviation school.
- Identification and license plate of the drone.
- Insurance policy for damages to third parties.
- Application with flight plan before the Civil Aeronautics with 15 working days in advance.
- The drone must have a color that allows it to be easily identified in the air.
- The drone should not exceed 25 kilograms.
It is also stipulated in the regulation that you can not fly near military bases, mayor's offices, governorates, airports, buildings and events with crowds of people. The regulatory circular emphatically specifies that drones must be within a radius of no less than 1.8 kilometers from high dignitaries such as Mr. President, Vice President, national and international authorities.
If any of the regulations were to be breached, the operator or persons responsible would be liable to a fine that could amount to UP to 600 SMLV.
