Mexico. NexTV Summit Mexico & Central America once again brought together the most outstanding executives of the leading companies in the change and transformation of the TV business in Mexico and Central America.
According to estimates by Dataxis, the organizer of the event, by the end of 2015 in Mexico there will be five million subscribers of OTT services and revenues from online video services will reach USD 370 million in that country this year. For 2018, it is expected, it will be USD 809 million.
In the debate, the highest executives of operating companies in the region ruled that the level of growth of OTTs is "exponential" and in a 20-year projection, the numbers would be reversed versus those of Pay-TV.
Another topic of debate was the regulation of OTTs which according to the panelists should be an issue on the regulatory agenda without applying the same criteria of regulation of pay television.
At the event, operators and programmers also analyzed what will happen with the migration to 4K, the future investment in the equipment necessary to make the leap and went ahead in announcing that HEVC is the necessary technology, but that the level of massification will be towards 2020.
The executives also ventured the future of terrestrial and satellite broadcasting networks and the critical aspects to improve the experience of viewers.
