International. Avid announced that France Télévisions is leveraging Avid Everywhere to produce daily summaries of its coverage of the world's most prestigious cycling competition, the 2015 Tour de France. The post-production team uses a powerful and highly collaborative workflow, built on the Avid MediaCentral platform, to handle the huge volume of content and create impactful packages in extremely short timeframes.
The 2015 Tour de France began with the Grand Départ in Utrecht, the Netherlands, on July 4, and will end with the victory parade, on July 26, on the Champs-Elysées in Paris.
Gilles Parcq, technical manager of France Télévisions, commented, "The Tour de France is one of the main sporting events on our production agenda, and it is crucial that we achieve good coverage. We need a solid post-production solution that can be easily set up every day, and that allows us to handle a huge amount of content to help editors find the best clips. The combination of creativity and reliability offered by the Avid workflow meets all our demands."
France Télévisions' mobile unit, which travels with the Tour, employs a post-production workflow based on Avid Interplay® | Production, Avid ISIS® shared storage, and editing islands with Avid Media Composer®. The integration with other brands offered by the Avid MediaCentral Connectivity Toolkit allows content recorded and annotated on the EVS video servers of another outdoor truck to directly feed two Avid ISIS shared storage systems | 5500.
The Interplay suite | Production incorporates numerous production and content management tools that allow the production team to view, sort and select clips to create impactful packages with the best moments of the day. This task is greatly simplified by the continuity of metadata generated throughout the production chain.
"With the huge volume of content it generates on a daily basis and the need for deliveries on the spot, the Tour de France is a formidable challenge... not only for the riders and their teams, but also for the television crews covering the event," said Jeff Rosica, Avid's senior vice president of Worldwide Operations. "Avid is proud to partner with France Télévisions to help them share the emotions and intensity of this race with their viewers on a daily basis."
