Mexico. Edgeware announced that TVI (Televisión Internacional, S.A. de C.V.), part of Multimedios and Grupo Televisa, has chosen Edgeware's VCP Edge solution to launch a new catch-up TV and DVR service in the cloud. Thanks to Edgeware's VCP Edge solution, Multimedios will be able to provide these attractive services, along with its current video-on-demand offering, from a single distribution platform to all existing devices.
With more than 80% of users in Mexico watching video content on the network, OTT services increasingly compete with those offered by traditional cable and telecommunications operators. For this reason, traditional providers face the challenge of cost-effectively adding new advanced services on top set-top boxes (STBs) and new multi-screen devices. The Multimedia infrastructure was not adapted to respond to these new challenges.
"We had a great challenge to find a solution that could meet the demand that our customers have for high quality live or deferred content, from any device, with an experience of the highest quality, and in a cost-effective and adaptable way," said Jorge Arturo Díaz Cárdenas, technical director of Multimedios. "Unlike other solutions that forced us to duplicate our infrastructure to serve our decoder customers on the one hand, and multiscreen customers on the other, with Edgeware we managed with a single platform to serve both types of customers."
Edgeware's VCP Edge solution provides ultra-high-quality video caching and streaming to more than 12 million TV and video subscribers worldwide. Edgeware's VCP can help cable and telecom operators reduce their CAPEX investments by at least 50 percent, while delivering unmatched video streaming capabilities and performance. Both VCP Edge and VCP Origin consist of two main components: the Orbit hardware platform and the Convoy SDN management software.
