UPB will offer a master's degree in digital TV

Colombia. After three years of work, the Pontifical Bolivarian University, headquarters in Medellín, will begin during the second semester of this year the first cohort of its master's degree in digital television, a pioneer in the country.

Luis Fernando Gutiérrez and Luis Orcasitas, teaching researchers in charge of carrying out the necessary research for the master's degree, explained to TVyVIDEO that for their development they were based on the experiences that have been developed in Brazil.

Both teaching researchers stressed that the master's degree, which has the modalities of deepening and research, has a social approach, that is, that the professionals who study it can obtain knowledge that allows them to look for the ways in which technology benefits society.

Therefore, the master's degree in digital television offers the student a strategic vision to management, production and programming processes and media convergence, providing theoretical and technical knowledge for the development of the new social, economic and technical dynamics that digital makes possible.

There are three areas that the master's degree will develop: communication, information and innovation. The first refers to the development of products and production processes, organization and aesthetic principles in the construction of the message. It addresses the typologies of information, the genres and formats of digital productions, analyzing their trajectory, describing the phases of their elaboration, the modes of reception and the possible and viable interactivities, trying to identify their specific scope in the fields of their action.

The second in the information as a basis for the development of products and solutions designed in the information supported by digital television. It addresses the potential of the available technology, for the creation, improvement and use of platforms.

Likewise, it investigates the flow of information transfer, addressing the generation and construction of specific knowledge, the processes of technological innovation in the production and transmission of digital content and convergent and emerging technologies in the area.

And the third is defined as key to the development of technologies for digital television, with theoretical components in innovation in software and hardware. It addresses the potentialities of generation, convergence and application of technologies, used in the value chain of digital television, that is, in the production of content, programming, distribution, delivery and consumption.
