Sony tour in Latam to present its new cameras

Latin America. Chile and Colombia were the first two countries visited by Sony as part of its tour of Latin America to present its new video cameras: the PXW-FS7 and the Alpha 7S.

Andrew Nelles, Sony's Senior Marketing Manager for Latin America, told TVyVideo that during November and December they will visit most of the countries in the region to present directly, and with the help of their local distributors, the new cameras. The event in Chile was accompanied by Videocorp while in Colombia it was the Commercial Company La Curacao.

"These cameras are aimed at small and medium-sized producers, because they have the latest technology at a very affordable cost for them. Both record in 4K, which we hope will help a faster rollout of this technology in the region," added Andrew Nelles.

The PXW-FS7 is the first XDCAM 4K camera with Super35 CMOS sensor. It is capable of recording in Quad Full HD (QFHD) 4K and Full HD in super slow motion. It is a team designed for creators of documentaries, music videos and online content, and corporate filmmakers looking for amazing image quality and an unsurpassed selection of recording formats.

The PXW-FS7's 11.6 million pixel 'Exmor' Super35 CMOS sensor delivers dazzling sensitivity, reduced depth of field, high signal-to-noise ratio and fantastic low-light performance. The camera has the ability to record QFHDi with 4:2:2 10-bit sampling up to 600 Mbit/s and offers support for a variety of recording formats including XAVC Intra, Long GOP, MPEG HD422 and Apple ProRes 422, available in early 2015 via a firmware update.

Ergonomic design, ideal to be operated by a single person in demanding conditions The new camera was specifically designed to offer a variety of versatile and creative filming options, placing it in a comfortable position on the shoulder, even after several hours of operation. The grip, easily adjustable viewfinder and fully sealed molten magnesium chassis are designed for robust use possibilities in dusty or damp environments and for "run and shoot" style applications.

For its part, the Alpha 7S is the world's smallest full-frame, interchangeable lens camera, putting extraordinary sensitivity, low noise and spectacular 4K video quality in the hands of professional photographers and videographers.

It features a new 35mm Exmor CMOS sensor with 12.2 effective megapixels that is combined with a powerful BIONZ X image processor, allowing the camera to record in a sensitivity range of ISO 50 – 409600 with low noise and unprecedented dynamic range.

The new model is also the first camera in the world to use the full width of a full-frame image sensor in the acquisition of 4K video without cropping or skipping lines, because it can read and process data from each of the pixels of the sensor. This allows those who record 4K video to use all the artistic and creative benefits offered by this exclusive sensor.
