IFT sanctions seven broadcasting stations

Mexico. The plenary session of the Federal Institute of Telecommunications, IFT, decided to impose sanctions and declare the loss for the benefit of the Nation of the assets destined to the operation of seven broadcasting stations that transmitted in the FM band without having the corresponding concession or permit.

In all cases, the IFT carried out preventive assurance visits to the homes where the stations operated. In strict accordance with the law, the administrative procedure was discharged and the non-existence of the concession or permit titles that accredited the legal operation of these frequencies was reliably verified.

As a result, the IFT Plenary determined, based on articles 101, section XXIII, 103, 104 bis and 106 of the Federal Radio and Television Law, to impose sanctions and declare the loss for the benefit of the Nation of the assets destined for the operation of seven stations located in the states of Puebla and Veracruz.

Likewise, the Plenary resolved that 31 radio stations in Amplitude Modulated (AM), which at the time were authorized to change the frequency to FM, will continue to transmit simultaneously in the AM band until the Institute determines that the provision of the sound broadcasting service is guaranteed in all the populations of the coverage area of said stations, based on the technical studies carried out by the Radio and Television Systems Unit.

In this way, various communities in the country that only have AM coverage will remain communicated through this service, based on the provisions of point Six of the "Agreement establishing the requirements to carry out the change of frequencies authorized to provide the radio service and operating in the Amplitude Modulated band, in order to optimize the use, exploitation and exploitation of a public property in transition to digital radio", published in the Official Gazette of the Federation, on September 15, 2008.
