Today the HD signal of Caracol and RCN goes off the air again

Colombia. The 12 at night of July 16 was the deadline in which the permission that the private channels, Caracol and RCN, had granted to subscription TV operators for the retransmission of their signals in high definition during the World Cup expired. But since it is over and the parties have not reached any agreement, the signal goes off the air again.

Speaking to Colombian media, both sides remain firm in their position: the channels want to charge for the retransmission of their HD signal and subscription TV operators insist that this service must be free. The channels base their claim on pronouncements of the Superintendency of Companies and arguments of copyright protection.

While HD television users are again affected without the offer of the two private channels of open signal, the ANTV and the Superintendence of Societies study the decisions they will make in this regard.

And precisely the ANTV issued on Monday, July 14, Resolution 2078 of 2014, through which it is transferred to subscription TV operators, channels and associations, to contest a test practiced and to allege conclusion within administrative action initiated by Resolution No. 1612 of May 5, 2014.

It establishes a period of five days for interested parties to send the ANTV comments on the study carried out by the entity during the month of June, in order to have the necessary information to make a decision in this case.

The report, called Analysis of visits to subscribers of the television service in the satellite, wired and closed modalities, was carried out in the departments of Antioquia, Atlántico, Cundinamarca, Quindío, Risaralda, Santander and Valle del Cauca. To make the report, they visited 535 subscribers in 132 neighborhoods.

62% of the homes visited receive the TV service by digital subscription through set top boxes and only eight of the homes visited had an antenna to receive the signal over the air.
