Mexico. From the Communications Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, a call was made to continue with the process of adoption of digital television, continuing with the bidding process to acquire the missing equipment to put DTT into service throughout the country.
The call was made specifically to the Ministry of Communications and Transport, since the process has been affected with the entry into force of the new regulations on telecommunications approved, through which Cofetel was eliminated and Ifetel was created.
During this transition, the deputies say, the tender was suspended and the second stage in the adoption of digital television could be affected, because it has not been possible to acquire the decoders and digital antennas required at this point in the process.
In its call for DTT, the Commission of the Chamber of Deputies also asked the Technical Committee of the Social Coverage Fund in Telecommunications, to do what is necessary so that the resources required for said tender are carried out in the estimated time.
The Deputies asked to be informed every six months of the progress of the implementation of DTT in local areas until the process is concluded, that is, on the first of June 2015 as estimated.
Finally, in their commission, they request the Ministry of Economy to maintain intense campaigns that allow the inhabitants to be made aware of the consequences of buying an analog television, as well as to monitor the correct compliance with the Official Mexican Standard NOM-024-SCFI-2013, which defined the controls and characteristics for the sale of televisions in Mexico.
