Uruguay. On July 31, Canal U was launched, a signal that aims to rescue the talent, values and idiosyncrasies of Uruguayans. A clear sign of Uruguayan national identity.
The signal is born from a commitment of local communicators with extensive experience in Uruguay, which is concretized with the serious, gradual and tireless work that has been carried out during its four years of gestation. The sustainability of the project was achieved with the support of companies that saw this signal as the opportunity to bring together in a single channel the best of Uruguay's production and identity.
According to Pablo Scotellaro, one of the directors of the channel, the programming is totally linked to Uruguay, either by its realization or by the protagonists that make them up. Canal U has original production content, designed exclusively for this signal and also has the most outstanding content adjusted to the national identity that have been provided by local producers and friendly channels.
The new Canal U will have a comprehensive and diverse grid, ranging from fictions, documentaries and musicals, to entertainment, sports and journalistic programs.
According to the Canal's advisor, Michel Visillac, "An unavoidable aspect is the sustainability of Canal U in the context of our country. Uruguay is characterized in the international market as an attractive place for audiovisual production at reasonable costs."
Canal U currently has regional arrival through Cablevisión and independent operators. It can be seen on television platforms for subscribers throughout the Uruguayan territory, reaching 60% penetration in Argentina and Paraguay, 50% in Chile and 70% in Colombia.
