Colombia. In order to be able to award the television spaces of Channel One through a public tender, the National Television Authority, ANTV, will extend the current concessions for up to 40 months.
This situation arises because the tender, on the recommendation of the study carried out by the consulting team of the National University of Colombia, cannot currently be carried out because it is impossible to determine the impact on the market of the entry of new channels, the deployment of 4G technology, the expansion of Digital Terrestrial Television and Internet television, among other factors.
In these 40 months, according to estimates by the National University, it will be possible to determine the impact of the new technological variables on the market and define the valuation and the economic, financial, technical and legal conditions for the award.
In the event that the concessionaires do not accept this option, so as not to affect the provision of the service, It will be Señal Colombia in its capacity as national public operator, the entity that attends the programming of the channel from the first of January 2014.
The current contracts with the Jorge Barón Televisión Ltda. Consortium and Sportsat S.A.; the Media Limited Information Company CMI Television; Unión Temporal Colombiana de Televisión S.A. and Nacional de Televisión y Comunicaciones S.A. NTC S.A., and Unión Temporal Radio Televisión Interamericana S.A. RTI S.A. and Programa Televisión S.A. began on January 1, 2004 and expire on December 31, 2013.
This measure has not been exempt from controversy because some of the current concessionaires of Channel One sublet the spaces that corresponded to advertising programs that lowered the quality of the programming, a fact that has had a direct impact on the rating of the channel, which most of the day is zero.
