International. From now on, devices such as smartphones, tablets, computers and smart TVs that are based on Intel technology will be able to access live and on-demand television content, thanks to the collaboration with Comcast that supports the viewing of Xfinity TV.
This experience is possible thanks to the XG5 Multi-Screen Video Gateway, an emerging device designed by Arris and based on Intel's Puma 6MG, which centrally manages access to Pay-TV and broadband services, as well as new services such as security and technology management at home.
This is a new category of device that offers high-speed video, voice, and internet via a device's MoCA, Dect, and WiFi, creating a home network for various devices and other displays.
Steve Reynolds, senior vice president of Customer Premise Equipment at Comcast, said, "Intel has been a great partner. As we worked to develop a platform that supports a home gateway and customer architecture, Intel's powerful silicon platforms and support for our RDK software initiative allowed us to quickly develop a flexible platform for delivering our wired video services."
Comcast is working with Intel to develop this technology with the next advancements of the DLNA Premium Content Guidelines, in order to deliver the Xfinity TV experience for Intel-based devices throughout the home. The DLNA is a set of interoperability guides that enables the delivery of enhanced content services and the secure transport of protected digital content for home-distributed devices.
