International. To standardize the encoding and processing of its digital television signal, the company Raycom, which brings together 43 television stations in the United States, chose Harris's Selenium platform.
With this process of modernizing signal coding services, Raycom will improve signal quality, both in high definition and for standard definition, with greater channel capacity and greater signal redundancy to maximize air reliability.
It will also take advantage of that flexibility by using Selenium for video/audio frame synchronization and audio processing in 5.1, automatically mixing signals in stereo 2.0 with digital surround sound.
Bob Thurber, Raycom's Director of Engineering, said establishing a common signal processing and coding platform simplifies operations and maintenance across the company. "The ability to handle IP distribution solves a possible future challenge, as we can accommodate it in this single chassis. That's the dynamic nature of this platform and it was something we consider important in this election," he said.
Harris' representatives announced that it will ship orders within 90 days, offering a fast track to reach all stations that are on the air with Selenium.
