Paraguay. Within the framework of the migration of private channels to DTT, the Chamber of Broadcasters of Paraguay (Catelpar) again proposed to the Conatel of their country that they need to be sure that they will maintain their respective licenses, in order to make the necessary investments in the transfer to digital television.
The president of the Chamber formed by Paravisión Canal 5, Teledifusroa Canal 13, Red Guaraní, Telefuturo and SNT, Eduardo Gross Brown, stressed that "the purchase, installation and commissioning of the equipment to carry out the migration, would require up to US $ 20 million for each broadcaster, since in some cases they have several repeaters in the interior of the country."
Beyond the analog blackout set for 2022, the central point has to do with the Paraguayan government assuring private open channels of continuity of the licenses they currently operate.
According to the decree sanctioned in June 2010, operators who submit their request for a channel for digital transmission until December 31, 2014, have secured a channel for this purpose, and after that date, the granting will depend on availability.
According to the decree, the renewals will then not be automatic, but must compete to maintain them.
