Peru. Peruvians are still unclear which televisions are prepared for Digital Terrestrial Television, as demonstrated by a study by the Radio and Television Advisory Council (Concortv) that indicates that 85% of the population does not know if their equipment can adopt this technology.
The survey conducted in 14 Peruvian cities at the end of 2011, also indicates that 70% of people have not heard of DTT and 81% do not know if the televisions that are currently marketed are prepared for the digital terrestrial signal.
Consistent with the study, Concortv urged the approval of a rule that obliges manufacturers, importers or marketers of televisions in Peru to place a sticker indicating whether the device is ready for DTT.
Miriam Larco, technical secretary of Concortv, indicated that "the Ministry of Communications or Indecopi can approve a standard or agree with manufacturers to use a seal or sticker on all televisions suitable for the digital signal. In addition, it is important that televisions that do not have the built-in digital tuner do not enter the country."
This initiative seeks to imitate the project that was carried out in Chile in November of last year, when the Ministries of Energy and Telecommunications signed an agreement with manufacturers and marketers of televisions and set-top boxes with digital tuner, to make an energy efficiency labeling and digital television to all the equipment that was in commercialization.
