International. A study published by the company IC Insights states that emerging countries in regions such as Latin America and Asia-Pacific will drive the global growth of Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) in 2012.
This represents a contrast to the situation of North America, Europe and Japan, which will maintain stable growth rates and without significant increases, mainly due to the fact that in developed markets the implementation of this technology has already materialized.
On the other hand, IC Insights also reported that LED and Smart TVs are in greater demand than 3D TVs. According to figures provided by the company, LED equipment accounted for 37% of global TV shipments, for a 15% increase over 2010.
As for future expectations, the firm predicts that by 2012 LED equipment will reach 53% of global shipments. On the other hand, 20% of the TVs sent this year were in the Smart category and by 2012 they are expected to reach 40%.
The popularity of the latter is due to the fact that the methods to deliver the contents are being transformed in the wake of existing applications for cell phones, computers and tablets, which is uniting the utilities of the web with those of television more and more. Hence the importance of television producers starting to think about this type of platform when making their content.
