Colombia. As stated by the Minister of Information and Communications Technologies of that country, Diego Molano, the National Television Commission (CNTV), is analyzing the change of the Digital Terrestrial Television (DVB-T) standard, chosen since August 2008, for its most recent version (DVB-T2).
With this evolution, more channels would be transmitted in HD and operators could offer 3D content. In addition, according to Julián Cardona, president of the Colombian Association of Engineers, Aciem, "the adjustment would bring benefits for network operators since its deployment is cheaper and covers wider extensions."
However, according to CNTV Commissioner Mauricio Samudio, talks are currently underway with operators and equipment manufacturers to find the most convenient decision. "This is the right time to carry out the update of the standard, because in the future, anyway, it will have to be done," the official added.
