Latin America. The American company that broadcasts movies and series online, Netflix, announced its arrival in the Latin American market where it will progressively enter 43 countries in the Caribbean and South America during this 2011.
Customers in the region, for a low subscription price, will be able to access an unlimited number of movies and series in video streaming (without downloading them) that will be available in Spanish, Portuguese and English.
This announcement has generated expectation on the part of cable and satellite television providers, since in the US, the firm is the main generator of Internet traffic and the movies and series consumed by its users represented 29.7% of the total traffic in that country last March.
In Latin America, even without the presence of Netflix, traffic in that same month generated 27.5% of the total, a figure that gives an indication of the future impact it could generate among the aforementioned operators when the online streaming giant begins its functions in the region.
Experts say that at first this fact will affect small operators, but rules out effects on large companies in the cable TV sector, since they assure that Netflix will attract young users, who do not always hire streaming services for their homes.
